I've read a few of Karen's books in the past, and while I love them all, I do have a special place in my heart for her books that involve rock stars. She does such a good job with them because on one hand, she makes sure the reader can FEEL that rock star appeal, but on the other, she also lets the reader see that they are real people behind the persona. I think it is all about character development, and the way she writes these characters really works for me.As someone who appreciates a page turner involving a sexy rock star, I have to applaud this one because it doesn't follow the typical "bad boy" rock star-meets-groupie formula. Instead, you've got a hot rock star wiling to go the extra mile for a beautiful, headstrong woman...and the special twist I love most is that the WOMAN is the one who wants the one night stand. It's up to Peter, our rock star, to show Katie that he's worth more than one night. Right on!!
The book reads quickly and the plot is very clear...and of course the sex scenes, including one super-hot phone scene that I won't spoil for the rest of you, are top notch. I can't speak for others, but I've grown tired of reading the same old-same old sex scenes. It is nice to see someone thinking outside of the box once in a while. Great read!

Cute, quick read, sometime steamy romance between a rock star and a photographer. The photographer is still recovering from a fiance that walked away with another woman the week before their wedding. Her way of dealing with it is to never have anything other than one-night stands. But the rock star manages to wheedle his way into her heart. Well worth the $0.99 special price when it was first published. Will look for other reasonably priced books from this author.
Another winner by Karen Booth. I loved Peter and Katie, and not only understood Katie's rule about risking her heart, I understood Peter's determination to make her abandon her rule for him. The 144 roses were a fabulous touch -- I would have been convinced, so I'm not surprised Katie eventually was, too. Overall a wonderful story with a happy ever after ending that was not predictable.
This is the first book I have read by Karen Booth and it is great! I've already gone and purchased several others that she's written. She makes her characters so believable and their stories so interesting that you want to stay involved. In this book we meet Peter, a guitarist in a popular rock band and Katie, a rock band photographer, that Peter is interested in. Katie was dumped by her cheating fiance one week before her wedding and is now totally distrustful of men and relationships. She doesn't want to give Peter a chance because she's afraid she will fall too hard. He is very persistent. So the story revolves around Peter trying to convince Katie that he's serious. Hmmm, will it work? I guess you'll have to read it to find out!
This was a cute story... probably closer to 3-1/2 stars. I didn't feel like there was a whole lot of conflict until near the end, when Kate jumped to some conclusions. I liked that Peter was so into Kate from the get-go. He gave her no reason to be concerned about him or his commitment to her, other than the fact that he's a rock star. To be fair, her last serious relationship ended when her fiance broke the news he was in love with someone else, so she's a bit gunshy. And a rock star? He's offered so many choices on a daily basis... why would he "settle" for Kate? (That's her thinking too hard.) Anyway, it all worked out, and it was cute to watch Kate let him in. It did seem to end quite abruptly. I'm not sure how much more story I expected, and it ended in a logical place, but it was just kinda like "bam, we're done", and I wasn't expecting it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. For me, rockstar romances need to have a certain vibe that lets the reader slip away from the real world and imagine that such encounters could maybe really happen to them, and this book has it. The writing was beautifully done, with a solid balance of descriptive narrative and internal dialogue, and utterly engaging dialogue. I saw some missed opportunities for character development here and there, and was frustrated when a couple of upcoming events were ultimately presented as briefly mentioned memories later on instead of actually being a scene in the book, and that was a little distracting for me (e.g., Peter receiving and reacting to the print). Otherwise, it was a spot-on Rockstar romance, complete with a larger-than-life, sexy rockstar with a heart of gold. And the sexual tension in this book was off the charts and perfectly paced. This writer knows how to make the most of the sexual chemistry between characters with some seriously hot sex scenes. Yum!
I've chatted with Karen Booth for awhile now but hadn't ever gotten around to reading her books. She's awesome, and I know now her writing is great too! In Rock Starred our leading lady, Kate Stillman is a talented photographer that snaps pictures of famous bands. One of the band members, Peter Barrett, is flirting hardcore with her and you can tell he's really interested, but Kate is hesitant. You see, she was engaged to a guy not too long before then and he was a jerk, it didn't end well. It's caused Kate to not trust men, and not get into any relationship or anything with strings attached.
A bit of time passes and Kate and a girlfriend decide to have a girls weekend. They hit the road and decide to pamper themselves in Miami. They get there, they're having fun and imagine Kate's surprise when she realizes the hottie from the band has a show in that town and he spots her while they're out and about. I feel like in quite a few rock star books the guy doesn't have to work all that hard to get the girl. But in Rock Starred, Peter is wooing Kate as best he can, and she's slowly letting him in. I enjoyed the change of pace, and I really loved Peter's character.
Rock Starred is an enjoyable novella that had me wishing for a rock star of my own. I enjoyed KBooth's writing style and already know I'll be picking up another of her books in the near future. She wrote the characters realistic and Peter was such a sweetie. I recommend this for any rock star lover out there.
